Back to School Traffic Safety - Drivers play a large role in back to school safety.  Make sure you are alert and cautious and always watching for children and school buses.  Red means STOP !  The flashing lights on the school bus create a safety area for children around the vehicle and are often their only defence getting on or off the bus.

Parents, please also consider our children’s health and the environment when dropping off the kids at school. When your kids are disembarking to head into school or when you are picking them up at the end of the day, turn off your car engine.   Children are particularly vulnerable to air pollution because they breathe faster than adults and inhale more air per pound of body weight.  With a line up of vehicles all with engines idling outside your school at drop-off and pick-up times can lead to a very unhealthy concentration of smog.  Many people mistakenly believe that turning off the engine for a short time is more harmful to their cars.
